The Hair Manual
Your guide to caring for your Seven Hair unit.
Luxury hair deserves luxury care. With the right routine, your Seven Hair unit can maintain its softness, shine and beautiful finish for longer.
Whether you’re wearing sleek straight hair, soft body waves or defined curls, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know to care for your unit.
A little care goes a long way. Let’s get into it.
01. BEFORE YOUR FIRST WEAR
The perfect starting point.
Your Seven Hair unit may arrive ready to wear if you’ve selected one of our customisation options. If you’ve purchased a standard unit, you may wish to style it to your preference before installation.
Before wearing your unit:
- Gently detangle the hair, starting at the ends and working upwards towards the roots.
- Use a wide-tooth comb or a suitable detangling brush.
- If using heat, apply a lightweight heat protectant beforehand.
- Avoid applying heavy oils, creams or excessive styling products, particularly near the lace.
- Check that your unit fits comfortably before installation.
Our tip: Avoid unnecessary washing before your first wear. If your unit arrives clean and ready to style, you can enjoy it without putting it through an additional wash.
02. EVERYDAY CARE
Maintain your look. Preserve the quality.
Your daily routine plays a significant role in how your hair looks and feels over time.
Detangling
Always detangle gently. Begin at the ends and gradually work towards the roots, supporting the hair as you brush.
Never force a brush through knots or pull aggressively, as this can cause shedding, breakage and unnecessary stress on the lace.
For straight and body-wave units, a paddle brush or suitable detangling brush works well. For curly and textured units, use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb where appropriate to help preserve the curl pattern.
Moisture & Shine
Human hair can become dry without proper care. Use lightweight, hair-compatible conditioning products to maintain softness and manageability.
Apply products sparingly, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. Too much product can cause buildup, dullness and a heavy finish.
Night-time Care
Before bed:
- Gently detangle your unit.
- For longer hair, loosely braid or twist it if suitable for the style.
- Wrap the hair in a silk or satin scarf, or use a silk or satin bonnet.
- Where possible, sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase.
- Avoid sleeping with wet hair, as this can encourage tangling and matting.
Remember: Friction is one of the biggest contributors to tangling, particularly around the nape of the neck.
03. WASHING & CONDITIONING
Cleanse gently, condition thoroughly.
Human hair units require cleansing to remove accumulated oils, styling products and environmental residue.
Washing too frequently can contribute to dryness, while leaving a unit unwashed for too long can lead to buildup and tangling.
How often should I wash my unit?
Your washing routine will depend on your hair texture, styling habits and product use.
Straight & Body Wave
Aim to wash every 4–6 wears, adjusting as necessary if you use styling products frequently or notice buildup.
Curly & Wavy
Aim to wash every 2–3 wears, or as needed to refresh the texture and remove product buildup. Curly styles may require additional conditioning to maintain their definition.
These are general guidelines rather than strict rules. Adjust your routine according to the condition of your hair.
Your wash-day routine
STEP 1 — Detangle first
Before introducing water, gently remove knots using a suitable brush or wide-tooth comb. Begin at the ends and work upwards.
STEP 2 — Rinse thoroughly
Rinse the hair with lukewarm water, allowing the water to flow from the roots towards the ends. Avoid hot water, which can contribute to dryness and frizz.
STEP 3 — Cleanse gently
Use a gentle, moisturising shampoo suitable for human hair extensions.
Smooth the shampoo down the hair rather than rubbing, twisting or scrubbing the strands together. Concentrate on the roots and areas where product buildup is present.
STEP 4 — Rinse completely
Rinse until all shampoo has been removed. Leftover residue can leave the hair feeling heavy or dull.
STEP 5 — Condition
Apply a suitable conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends. Allow it to sit according to the product instructions before rinsing thoroughly.
Avoid saturating the lace, knots or attachment areas with heavy conditioning products.
STEP 6 — Dry carefully
Gently squeeze excess water from the hair using a soft towel. Do not rub or twist the hair.
Detangle carefully and allow the unit to air-dry where possible, or use a hairdryer on a low-to-medium heat setting with heat protection.
Ensure the cap and roots are completely dry before wearing or storing the unit.
STEP 7 — Style as desired
Once dry, style your unit using suitable tools and products. Apply heat protection whenever using heated styling tools.
04. HEAT STYLING
Style with intention.
One of the benefits of human hair is its versatility. However, repeated exposure to high temperatures can cause dryness, breakage, colour changes and loss of curl definition.
To protect your unit:
- Always apply a suitable heat protectant before using heated tools.
- Start with the lowest effective temperature.
- Avoid repeatedly passing hot tools over the same section.
- Allow the hair to cool before brushing or manipulating the finished style.
- Reduce heat styling where possible to preserve the hair’s condition.
As a general precaution, keep styling temperatures at or below 180°C where possible, using higher temperatures only when genuinely necessary and appropriate for the hair.
Important: No heat setting is completely risk-free. Previously coloured or chemically processed hair may be more vulnerable to damage.
Maintaining your texture
Straight: Use a suitable brush and lightweight smoothing products to maintain a sleek finish.
Body Wave: Avoid excessive brushing if you want to preserve the wave pattern. Use gentle styling techniques to refresh the movement.
Curly & Wavy: Minimise brushing when dry if it disrupts the curl pattern. Use your fingers or a suitable wide-tooth comb and appropriate lightweight curl products.
Frequent heat styling can gradually loosen a wave or curl pattern. For the best results, embrace your unit’s natural texture whenever possible.

A note on product selection: These are suggestions, not requirements. Product suitability varies by hair texture and condition. Some richer formulas may weigh down finer textures or cause buildup, particularly near the lace.
Use products sparingly, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and avoid applying heavy oils or conditioners directly to the knots.
06. STORAGE & LONGEVITY
Keep your investment in good condition.
With appropriate care, human hair wigs can last a considerable time. Actual longevity depends on the hair’s original condition, how frequently the unit is worn, installation methods, heat exposure and maintenance.
To help extend the life of your Seven Hair unit:
- Always detangle before storing.
- Ensure the hair is completely dry.
- Store the unit in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Use a suitable wig stand or storage bag to help maintain its shape.
- Keep the hair away from excessive humidity and sources of heat.
- Avoid storing the unit while damp or covered in styling product.
- Handle the lace gently when removing, cleaning or reinstalling the unit.
For coloured units: Coloured hair may require additional moisture and more careful heat management. Excessive washing, sunlight and heat can contribute to fading or changes in tone.
How long should my unit last?
With consistent, appropriate care, a human hair unit may last up to two years. This is a guide rather than a guarantee, as longevity varies according to use and maintenance.
A FINAL NOTE FROM US…
Your unit was chosen to be enjoyed. You don’t need an elaborate routine or an entire shelf of products to maintain it; consistency, gentle handling and suitable care are what matter most.
Treat your hair with intention, protect it from unnecessary damage and give it the attention it deserves.
Because luxury isn’t just in the hair you wear. It’s in how you care for it.
